Absentia review by Fabio Agius

Surfing through my GO TV app, I always look for something fresh and not so mainstream. I came across the series Absentia. It’s a pity that only a few people talk about this series. I’ve always been attracted to the detective/noir genre in movies and series, thus, I didn’t think twice before I started watching it.

The main plot of Absentia turns around FBI agent Emily Byrne, who disappears without a trace while hunting a Boston serial killer – she is technically declared dead. After six years, she is found in a cabin in the woods, floating almost lifeless in a water tank. When she recovers, she has no recollection of what happened in the past six years. She returns home, where she finds her life has been rebooted, with her husband remarried and her son being raised by his new wife. Accused of suspected murder and split personality, Emily has to prove herself innocent and turns vigilante to prove her innocence. The story gets deeper as it goes along, especially when it refers to the part where Emily had disappeared, giving us puzzle pieces here and there to get the whole picture eventually.

Something that I really love about this series, mystery aside, is the ambience in which it is shot. The acting is quite excellent and credible too! The music score complements the mood of the scene perfectly. The audience is involved in the story by luring them into suspecting many characters of being the killer, but it is a dead-end in many cases. I don’t want to spoil this series for you guys. I can only say that Absentia is definitely worth checking out on GO TV.
