Breaking Bad was maybe one of the best series I have ever watched on the small screen. Well written, character-driven and somewhat scientifically accurate in some cases. It lured audiences into believing that sometimes it is a good thing to do bad things for a good reason and you felt empathy with the main protagonist (Walter White) for the situation he was in. When it all ended with a great finale, producers wanted to milk the franchise more and hence came Better call Saul.
Initially, I was skeptical because I’m not a big fan of overstretching a perfect story but since this was a spinoff, I gave it a chance. In this series we follow the story of Saul Goodman, who is back as the crooked lawyer from Breaking Bad. This series is an origin story where we see Jimmy McGill’s (Saul’s actual name) twisted origins and what made him become a lawyer in the first place. He was a hustler and con artist who decided to change his life and become a lawyer thanks to his brother Chuck who was a lawyer already. I am leaving the story here just to avoid major spoilers.
Being a spinoff from Breaking Bad, Saul encounters and interacts with plenty of characters from the latter, like former corrupt cop turned hitman Mike and the infamous gangster boss, Gus. I mostly enjoyed how this series fits in the Breaking Bad universe, which compliments the already established characters and story vibe. The acting is terrific in making the audience relate to some of the characters. Overall it is a very intriguing series without any unnecessary complexities, just good fun. I am currently watching Season 6 on Go Tv and look forward to seeing where this series is heading.
