1. Stay hydrated
With a heatwave round the corner, we know how difficult it is to remind ourselves to stay hydrated at times. If you usually forget to drink water, there are a number of apps that can help you out like Water Drink Reminder, Aqualert & Hyrdo Coach besides others. If you don’t like the taste of water, there are some fruity concoctions you can play around with. Grab a jug, fill it with water and throw in a few pieces of your favourite fruits to infuse overnight and you’re good to go.
P.S. coffee and alcohol can promote dehydration so be careful.
2. Eat lighter meals
Try to lay off heavy carbohydrates and eat more healthy food more frequently. Fruits and vegetables also have higher water content so you’ll be hydrating yourself in the process and giving your body the right nutrients it needs.
3. Don’t forget sunblock
With dangerous UV levels, we always recommend putting on sunblock before you leave the house. Be mindful of the SPF factor and don’t forget to put sunblock on your face!
4. Keep sunglasses and a hat at bay
If you’re prone to headaches or migraines caused by the heat, having a good pair of sunglasses and a hat at hand will really help.
5. Try to avoid going out at dangerous times
Try to avoid going to the beach especially with the elderly or young children between 11am and 2pm when the sun is at its hottest. We’ve got some lovely TV channels and movies to occupy the kids during these hours before heading off to the beach! Visit our Movies & Series for more information.
6. Stay in cooler areas of the house
If you live in a house, we recommend staying on the lower levels during peak hours as heat rises- it’s always going to be hotter upstairs!
7. Go easy on your exercise regime
We recommend light exercise avoiding peak hours especially during heatwaves. You can go for a light walk in the evening, early in the morning or even for a refreshing swim. If you decide to do high intensive training, keep electrolytes close in case you start to feel dizzy.
8. Be mindful of your pets and children
Just a gentle reminder to not leave pets or children in hot cars whilst you’re doing your grocery shopping and errands-even if it is for a few minutes. Also, if you know you’re going to be out for a few hours, it’s best to leave your pets inside with a fan/AC on and a cool towel to keep them from overheating. If you’d like to keep tabs on where they are, you could also look into our GPS Tracking devices.
9. Close the windows
If you’re a fellow allergy sufferer or simply want to keep the heat in, it is highly recommended to keep the windows closed to prevent the heat and dust from getting into your home. Keeping curtains closed also helps cooling down the place.
10. Check on your loved ones
If a family member doesn’t have an AC or has health issues, be mindful that they could be at risk during peak hours of the day. Want to make sure they’re on the right mobile plan in case of emergencies? Check out our mobile plans today.
