GO is one of Malta ESG Alliance founding members

GO has joined forces with several leading reputable business organisations which have come together to announce the launch of Malta ESG Alliance (MESGA) – a private sector initiative that will seek to tackle local environmental, social and governance priorities.

Nikhil Patil, CEO of GO was present for yesterday’s joint press conference alongside all the Founding Members’ CEOs and top representatives. Perit David Xuereb and consultancy firm EY Malta are supporting all the Alliance members.

The Founding Members aim to attract other committed members from all economic sectors to join such an Alliance, by acting as credible leaders and acting on sustainable matters first-hand. The first ESG theme chosen for company projects was that of climate change and decarbonisation.

During the press conference, Nikhil Patil explained how GO has long embarked on its road map to become a sustainable company, to being a role model for other business entities and to enabling its own customers so that they too actively, and successfully start reducing their carbon footprint.

“This Alliance provides an opportunity for collaboration for the benefit of Malta. One of GO’s initiatives is the acquisition of majority shareholding in SENS,  a company that uses technology to bridge green technology with IOT to enable businesses to make more efficient use of electricity and reduce their carbon footprint.”

“Environmental sustainability is a key pillar in our business model and something we actively pursue also in our purpose of driving a digital Malta where no one is left behind. Climate change is an opportunity to future proof the business. It is a question of economic sustainability. Reducing our carbon footprint to the bare minimum, is our long-term goal. Our most ambitious initiative currently is the completion of our €20m new zero-carbon headquarters in Żejtun – a building which will be one of the leading sustainable buildings on the island.”

“We are proud to play an active role in this new Malta ESG Alliance, which provides an opportunity for collaboration for the benefit of the country. Along with the other decarbonisation projects being proposed by the other Alliance members, the private sector is giving a tangible show of how it wants to contribute to a more sustainable and less carbon intensive future Malta,” concluded Nikhil Patil.

Other initiatives that are making GO more environmentally sustainable include the replacing of legacy copper network as it deploys its fibre to the home technology across the Maltese islands in an accelerated manner, enabling the workforce to work at least three days remotely, thus contributing to less traffic and pollution. and making most departments paperless.
