We’ve partnered with operators in the country you are visiting so that we can offer you our roaming services. The mobile radio coverage and main network infrastructure are always provided by our roaming partners, while other partners are there to provide support.

We do our utmost to ensure that the quality of your services when abroad matches that when using your home network to get a genuine Roam-Like-At-Home experience. Having said that, there may be instances where the quality may differ slightly from what you’re used to due to factors outside our control. Various local factors in each country can influence the quality of service provided. Some of these may be the technologies available in the country you are visiting, as well as the deployment status of the latest technology. Service quality can be impacted by local network coverage, the number of people using the network during peak hours, surrounding buildings in urban areas, tree cover and even weather conditions. Coverage may also vary in indoor locations, when travelling in a car or when visiting remote rural and mountainous regions.

Voice and SMS services
The quality of your voice service will depend on the network coverage provided and the underlying technology. Some countries have started closing their 2G and 3G networks, which may affect your voice experience.

Remember that calls to Maltese freephone numbers, premium rate numbers, and short codes may not be available when roaming. When available, these may be charged at a higher rate.

On the other hand, SMS services typically work in the same manner, just like at home, so the quality of service should be the same as at home.

Data services
The quality of your roaming data service can vary depending on the service provided by the network of the country you are visiting. You should receive the same data speeds as at home if that particular speed is available on this network. We do not throttle your data speed in Malta or when roaming.

Data speeds in destinations such as Africa, Asia, Australia and the Americas may experience some latency due to the vast distances between these countries and Malta. Latency is a slight delay between sending a request over the internet and receiving the response. It will not be noticeable during normal usage. However, this may be noticed by those with higher bandwidth requirements, like gamers or those who conduct high-volume downloads.
