Why am I getting slow internet speeds?

There are several factors that may affect your internet speed. For instance, certain connections like Bluetooth, other networks in your area and other wireless network devices may interfere and even cause interruptions to your Wi-Fi.

If you feel you’re having issues with your internet, we suggest that you test your internet connection by logging into MyGO.

If the test shows that there is no fault, try to disconnect some of the connected devices and give it another go. If the speed does not improve, consider moving closer to your modem. However, if the speed improves when doing so, then this means that your internet connection is working fine but you might have issues with your Wi-Fi range that could be caused by other devices interfering with your Wi-Fi signal. This issue can easily be sorted by using Wi-Fi beacons that can help boost your Wi-Fi signal across your property.

Below are some things you can try if you’re connected via Wi-Fi or you’re wired.

Wi-Fi

  • Wi-Fi connection speed may vary due to one or more of the following:
    • The device is being used outside of the modem range
    • There are active applications in the background
    • There are multiple devices connected and being used on the same network
    • Wireless interference (from other wireless devices at home or nearby such as Bluetooth speakers/sound bars and even cordless phones)
  • In case you have our Technicolor 789 modem, it’s important to check that both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz modem lights are on
  • It’s important to have the latest operating system version updates

Wired

  • Active downloads or multiple devices on the same network may impact your Internet speed
  • Run a speed test to check your live speed
  • Try connecting to a different device
  • It’s important to have the latest operating system version updates

If you are using a third-party router, try to connect to our modem directly to identify if it’s a router issue or a connection problem.
